HP Interview

How To Prepare For An HP Interview

When you’re going in for an HP interview, just as with anywhere else, preparation is key. What do you need to learn, nerd up on, and figure out before you can walk into your interview ready to rock their socks off? We’re glad you asked, here’s how to prepare for a HP interview.

Research, research, research!
A question you can expect to answer is something along the lines of, “Why do you want to work here at HP?”

We know, questions like this are a dime a dozen, but a killer answer here can set you apart from other candidates. Think about it from the perspective of the interviewer; a candidate who displays knowledge of the company’s culture, the types of projects they work on, the current tech stack, and the current areas of growth etc is someone who will become a high level contributor much quicker than someone who has to learn everything from scratch.

It might sound a bit heartless to say it like this, but it’s all about a return on investment. By demonstrating you’ll be a good fit, they can expect to get a good return on their investment sooner than they otherwise would.

Get to know HP, get to know HP’s products, and get to know why you want to work at HP and how you can bring value from day 1.

HP Interview Tips

Here are some ways to position yourself for success at a HP interview

  1. Practice…by yourself
Record yourself answering technical questions, behavioral or walking someone through a case. As you listen back, pay attention to how fast you’re talking (we often talk faster than we realize, especially when we feel nervous), how confident you sound, and make sure you didn’t leave any important information in your head and unsaid.

Once you’ve done this one time. Do it again and again and again, until you sound like a pro.

  1. Practice…with friends or family
It’s one thing to lock yourself in a room and record some voice memos, it’s something else altogether to practice in front of your college roommate or your aunt. By the time you get to practicing in front of others you should be polished, but having a real live person before you often changes everything.

Not only is it a great way for you to practice in a setting that more closely resembles a real interview, you’ll be able to get feedback from non-subject matter experts on the things that worked well, didn’t work well and made the most sense.

  1. Practice…with a pro

Once you’ve passed the friends and family test, if you really want to bolster your chances of interview success you should book some interview prep. Yes it costs money, but the quality of feedback and advice you’ll be able to get is unparalleled. Plus, if you’ve done the hard work by yourself and with your friends, you’ll already be in good shape and only in need of some minor refinement before you’re good to go.

HP Interview Process

Unlike some many consulting firms, there’s no hard and fast rule for what the interview process at HP will look like. It can vary depending on the position you’re applying for and the office you’re applying to. That said, here are two things you can expect:

  • Screening Interview With A Recruiter
Most likely conducted over the phone, but sometimes in person, this is just a way for you to let the interviewer know you’re actually qualified for the job.
  • Behavioral And Technical Interview
This is where all of the practice you put into answering the questions above really pays off. If you’re lucky, this second stage will be a 1:1 interview, but depending on a number of factors, this might be 2 or maybe 3 interviews. Additionally, you may face a panel of interviewers and you might even have to dive deep into some technical rabbit holes to show you’re up to the task of working for HP.

Once you’ve completed the HP interview process, you can expect to hear from them pretty soon, with most applicants saying they received an answer about a week after their final interview.

Conclusion

Preparing for a HP interview requires a lot of hard work and determination, but if you’re willing to do the legwork you have a good chance of seeing it pay off. Many people who have experienced the HP interview process first hand have noted how professional the recruiting team is, how they create a welcoming atmosphere, and how quickly HP comes back to you with their decision. Good luck!
