Case Study Prompt

Companies “All Liquorice” (AL) and “Black Delight” (BD) are both in the candy industry in the UK. The candy industry produces chocolate, liquorice and chewing gum.

There are 4 players in the market. Besides AL and BD there is Chewin, the leader and most profitable company, and Devotion. The market is competitive and strong consolidation has taken place over the last years.

Now the board of All Liquorice wants to acquire Black Delight.

Why do you think would they want to acquire Black Delight?

Preparing for a second round OC&C interview? We recommend using the M&A Framework to solve this case, but don’t stop there. Show what you can bring to the table by creating a unique framework that utilizes your business experience and knowledge.

The qualitative difficulty is 3 out of 4, which makes this an advanced case interview you would more likely see in a OC&C second round interview.

OC&C Interview Tips

What does OC&C look for in a candidate? Candidates who can stay steady as a rock under pressure.

In your case prep, remain focused on the problem at hand when under pressure.

To be fully prepared, focus on a couple of things:

  1. Time yourself throughout the case (2min to build structure and 2min to present it; 2min each for a brainstorming question; 2min for final recommendation)
  2. Focus on your communication and polish as you walk through the case
