Prompt

A major East coast electric utility company has received a permit to build its first nuclear power plant. They are vertically integrated and overseen by state regulators.

It wants to know if this will be a good investment and possible risks associated with this venture.

BCG Case Study Overview

Your client in this BCG case study is an electric utility company looking at the possibility of building a nuclear power plant and breaking into a new market. It is up to you to look at the risks and analyze the data so you can make a solid recommendation to your client about the wisdom of such a plan.

It is a good idea to use the Market Study Framework to solve this case, but don’t settle for using the framework alone. The best candidates blend their own business understanding with the frameworks to build a solution specific to the problem.

The BCG case study has a qualitative difficulty score of 2 out of 4 and two math exhibits. This an intermediate case interview you might be given in a first round BCG interview.

BCG Interview Tips

BCG is looking for candidates who speak the language of structure. Their ideal candidate can build and clearly communicate a structured solution. Make sure your structure is crystal clear and you can verbalize each part of your process..

In this BCG case study, focus on 2 things:

  • Timing yourself as you run through the case: 2min for structure, 5min for math, 2min for brainstorming, and 2min for a conclusion
  • Concise communication and overall polish
