Case Prompt

Your client is a gas manufacturer. Currently the client owns and operates its gas plants nationwide. They have hired McKinsey to investigate whether they should enter into the business of running gas plants for third parties.

How will you structure the analysis of this case? Should the client enter or not enter into this business?

Case Overview

In this McKinsey case library case, the client is a gas manufacturer. The company is considering a decision to expand their business. You’ve been hired to consult the company on the decision – go or no-go?

The Market Study Framework is a good place to start when developing a framework for the business problem, but don’t limit yourself to that framework alone. Use your creativity and structuring experience to create a custom framework best-fitted to the case.

No math exhibits exist in the case. Prepping for a second round McKinsey interview? This case will help set you up to be successful.

Interview Tips: McKinsey

McKinsey values candidates that are structured i.e. organized. In the case, focus on maintaining structure the entire way through the case – structure in your analysis, in your notes, in your framework, in your communication, in your math, etc.

One other thing to do in this case is to time yourself: 2min to build structure and 2min to present it; 2min each for a brainstorming question; 2min for final recommendation.
