Case Intro

Our client is a Venture Capital company that has invested in a train engine manufacturing company.

This company has been losing money, but the client thinks there is potential to turn it around. They would like to see a turnaround as early as one year. You have to meet with the Venture Capital company two days from today and need to form an agenda for everyone.

What framework would you use to solve this case and form an accurate agenda?

Case Study Overview

Your job in this case is to help a VC company create a strategy to turn a profit on a currently-failing investment. What will you recommend to the client?

All case interview cases require some sort of structure to be built as the cornerstone of the problem-solving process. The Profitability Framework is a good place to start in this case.

This case is an entry level case similar to one you would expect in a first round at Kearney. There are no math exhibits inside the case.

Kearney Interview Tips

What does Kearney value in its interview candidates? A high degree of comfort with mental math and an ability to problem-solve like a boss.

Make sure your math is sharp! Utilize our free math drills if you need to sharpen up that area of the case.

1 more thing: after you run through the case (out-loud, preferably), take inventory of your performance. Then, do drill-based practice to double down on those areas. That is the path to case proficiency!
