Capgemini History

Capgemini was founded by Serge Kampf in October 1967, primary functions being data processing and enterprise management. In 1981, after acquiring a Milwaukee data conversion firm, they expanded to the U.S. market. In 2018, the company launched Capgemini Invent, the consulting and design leg of the Capgemini Group. This now has 10,000 employees

Just this year, Capgemini has also partnered with IBM to open a quantum computing laboratory that will aid research institutions in developing quantum applications. Eagle is IBM’s most recent 127-qubit quantum processor, and it’ll be utilized at this facility, which will be made available in Portugal, India, and the UK. This is an exciting development for those invested in the quantum science world.

Capgemini Careers

Capgemini jobs are varied and offered in about 50 countries. They’re constantly updating open positions, and with so many locations, there is always something in each niche and specialization available.

They separate the jobs offered to graduates from those for experienced hires, and there are far less options for recent graduates. They exist, but the competition will be greater, with locations and positions more limited.

Capgemini Internship

Capgemini offers a range of internship opportunities, and because of the significant variance in location and position, it will take a bit of sifting to find what might work for you. Some internships are remote, and the hours and terms of each will vary according to office and position.

Diversity Programs

Capgemini has several initiatives to keep its workforce as diverse and inclusive as possible, including World Economic Forum’s Partnering for Racial Justice in Business, of which it is a founding member. This program seeks to remove racist ideas from the workplace and promotes representation of minorities. In the UK they have partnered with a Race at Work Charter from Business in the Community, which concerns itself with doing business responsibly. They’ve created a council at their US offices to keep minority employees and their support at the forefront of their priorities. Capgemini has set the goal for itself to have its teams be comprised of 40% women and its executive positions held by 30% women by 2025.

Capgemini Culture

There’s a broad consensus among employees and former employees that Capgemini has done an exemplary job of creating a culture which values people along with profit and practices. It was named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies® ten years in a row, as well as one of the world’s best consulting firms by Forbes.

Capgemini Interview

Consulting interviews often have three rounds, usually technical, behavioral, and one with HR. Some interviewees reported having two technical interviews and none with HR, so the process can vary depending on the position. During behaviorals, expect standard questions about your resume, interests, and capabilities.

For IT and software positions, case and technical interviews are common, requiring a demonstration of skill. The near unanimous consensus is that interviewing staff are friendly, helpful, and approachable, so there shouldn’t be too much anxiety in this part of the process.

Capgemini Salary

Salaries naturally vary by location, position, and details of the offer, but some average Capgemini salaries are the following.

  • Consultant: $88,932
  • Business systems analyst: $91,237
  • Programmer: $97,484
  • Senior applications consultant: $135,874

Exit Opportunities

The international connections would certainly be beneficial should you wish to move into another market or nation after working at Capgemini. Exit opportunities leading into adjacent tech and consulting fields can be expected.

Conclusion

Capgemini’s global reach and strong company culture, along with a commitment to leading a principled workplace is impressive. There’s always the consideration that with any firm as large as Capgemini is, it’s possible to have some parts of camaraderie, connectedness, and individual attention could be neglected. Smaller firms will be a better fit for those looking for a particularly tight-knit workplace, but Capgemini seems to be quite successful at managing its numbers.
